The AAMS will accept as a Regular member, any individual over the age of sixteen (16) years, who resides in Nova Scotia and beyond, whose families originated in mainland Nova Scotia, who self-identifies as Métis with an ancestral connection to a historical Acadian community, who provides genealogical proof of an ancestral connection to Acadian Métis heritage by birth or adoption, who is accepted by the modern Acadian Métis community and who upholds the objectives of the AAMS.
On the AAMS membership application form, the following information is requested:
- Name and address - Date of birth - Phone and e-mail - Two (2) signatures - Two (2) photos - Two (2) long form birth or baptismal certificates (for you and parent) - Genealogical proof* - Fees
* While you may know of your family lines, you may not always have the records you need to document them, and it's important to have these in place when you submit your application. So that you may find your connection to Acadian-Métis or Aboriginal ancestors, the professionally-accredited genealogical research organization, the “Centre Acadien” at University Saint Anne, agrees to search and certify your genealogy, for a nominal fee, providing that your family line information is in their data base. See Application Guidelines for more details.
